Newman Lions Park

Lions Club

Within the Shire of East Pilbara, Vernon Design Group was requested to prepare a Master Plan for a site that was underutilised. The existing facilities included a native animal park, a farm animal park and facilities for a Lions Club. The brief was to expand the usage of the site by introducing a Caravan Park that accommodated chalets, a camping area and caravan spaces. In addition, an events area was to be provided, the Lions Club facilities were to be enhanced and finally the native and farm animal park was to be retained.

Two concepts were developed, the second of which resulted from stakeholder feedback based on the initial design. Discussions with stakeholders are a critical element of the design process. By preparing an initial design for discussion purposes, a more refined concept was developed to reflect their desires.

Victory Life Centre

As part of one of our philanthropy projects, we were involved with the Planning, Design and Documentation to expand the operations of Victory Life Centre. This included establishing a new Children’s Church, a Multi-Use Meeting space and a Community Services Food Bank. For these uses to function successfully, it was necessary to add a number of additional supporting facilities. In order for the Meeting space to be multi-purpose, it was necessary to add a semi-commercial Kitchen. The new Community Services required a Freezer and Cool Rooms to handle the necessary goods. In addition, Counselling Rooms and a Front Office Admin facility were included to increase the outreach services to the community and function more effectively. However, for all this to occur, the existing facilities needed to be converted and replanned.

The success of the Community Services has meant that Victory Life Centre now distributes 22 tonne of food a week. This food is predominantly donated to feed disadvantaged Perth Families. Other Churches are also supported in this outreach. The Meeting space is used regularly for various types of gatherings, as is the Kitchen. Overall the project has proven to be very successful.

Living Faith Community Church

Designing one of the largest Churches in Perth, Western Australia was a great honour for Vernon Design Group. The initial task was to design a Church auditorium with 1,000 seats, which we were delighted to successfully achieve given the numerous site constraints and also minimising costs. However, we were later required to increase the seating capacity to 2,000 seats. This was a considerable challenge and we were mindful of the need to achieve this within a reasonable budget. While 2,000 seats was possible, it was far more financially viable to attain 1,850 seats and save millions of dollars for our clients.
